New Board Member | Dr. Matt Brubaker
We are beyond thrilled to announce the latest addition to the Big Sky Bravery Board, Dr. Matt Brubaker.
Each year Big Sky Bravery grows stronger in all aspects. Every decision bears with it the overall welfare of this organization and we truly cannot imagine a more powerful, needle-moving addition than Matt.
Matt was raised with a deep respect and admiration for those who serve our country. From a young age, he recalls conversations with his granddad, a proud member of the Marine Corps and WWII survivor. These stories instilled a strong desire in him to give back. He grew up asking himself, “How do I fulfill this calling in the way I live my life?”
When he passed 35 years of age, Matt accepted the reality that serving in the way his grandfather and many other family members had was not the path he was called to take. While pursuing a career outside of the military, his strong desire to give back was still at the forefront of his mind.
Throughout his 25+ year career, Matt has studied and coached senior executive leaders, their teams, and their organizations. He is a recognized thought leader on the subject of human capital strategy. His work has been published in Harvard Business Review, Forbes, Chief Executive Magazine, Fast Company, and Private Equity International.
Today, he is the CEO of FMG Leading, a human capital strategy firm focused on the intersection of humanity and high-performance. In addition to running this rapidly-growing consulting firm, Matt’s client work focuses on private equity investors and high performing boards of directors.
Matt was introduced to Big Sky Bravery by Ned Schwing, Big Sky Bravery’s Chairman of the Board. After a couple years of working with BSB Founder & CEO, Josh McCain, on a professional level, he and his team at FMG Leading commissioned an extensive survey on the long-term benefits the BSB Task Forces have on past recipients.
Two of Matt’s cousins are currently serving in the US Army and have deployed many times over the past few decades. Throughout their time in service, he has witnessed firsthand the struggles of their lifestyle, for both the service members and their families.
Matt truly believes that being involved in Big Sky Bravery - from task forces to supporting the organization’s overall growth - is the answer to a calling he has long heard - the calling to give back to this country and those who defend it.
Matt is deeply grounded in the healing aspects that Big Sky Bravery’s Task Forces provide. He’s happiest when deep in the woods somewhere, with running shoes, a fishing rod, or a rifle (or, ideally, some combination of the above!). Matt’s an ultra-marathon distance runner, having completed many 50+ mile races, and enjoys the healing these activities provide. He sees this kind of impact on a daily basis in Big Sky Bravery, the powerful healing element of the great outdoors.
Dr. Brubaker completed his B.A. at Eastern University in St. Davids, PA, his Master of Arts degree in Dispute Resolution at the University of Massachusetts, and his Doctor of Education in Organizational Change (Ed.D.) degree from Pepperdine University. He currently serves as an Operating Partner at WindRose Health Investors, a New York-based private equity firm, and also sits on the boards of JM Search, Traditions Behavioral Health, and Big Sky Bravery.
Matt lives on a small farm in eastern Pennsylvania, with his wife Rachel, a diminishing number of children, and a growing assortment of livestock.
Please help us welcome Matt to the Board and thank him for his dedication to this country, our SOF community, and Big Sky Bravery.
Welcome to the Big Sky Bravery family, Matt! We’re thrilled to have you!
